A tool is a piece of equipment that (most commonly) provides a mechanical advantage in accomplishing a physical task. The most basic tools are simple machines. For example, a crowbar simply functions as a lever. The further out from the pivot point, the more force is transmitted along the lever.

The ACS Green Chemistry Institute (GCI) and the Environmental Associates of the Academy of Natural Sciences will sponsor this keynote session in the Exposition at the ACS Fall National Meeting in Philadelphia (Monday, Aug. 18, 12:00-2:00 PM, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Halls A&B—Special Events Pavilion). The session will provide an overview of the role that "green chemistry" and sustainable practices and products are currently playing in the chemical industry. The keynote address by GCI director Bob Peoples will be followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from major chemical companies.
