The theme of NCW 2008 is "Having a Ball with Chemistry." Ying at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (Singapore) detail a design strategy that controls material properties and processing parameters to influence the protein release characteristics of inorganic-polymer nanocomposite microspheres. They controlled the dissolution of the inorganic framework using the acidic breakdown products of the hydrolyzed encapsulating polymers.
