Disaster recovery and business continuity refers to an organization’s ability to recover from a disaster and/or unexpected event and resume and continue operations. Organizations should have a plan in place (usually referred to as a "Disaster Recovery Plan", or "Business Continuity Plan") that outlines how this will be accomplished.
When conducting an audit of a disaster recovery plan several factors should be considered as described below.
Written disaster recovery plan with continual updating
To be effective the plan must be in writing, must be understandable and must be accessible to those who need it. Because of constant changes that occur in the modern business environment, a plan should be updated frequently to deal with new and existing threats as they become known.
